Required training is structured by year. Complete your certifications to unlock equipment access.

1st Year

CRC &
Woodshop Training

All first-year CAP students are introduced to the Communication Resource Center for large-format and laser printing needs, and complete Woodshop Tier 1 and Tier 2 training.

  • 1 Visit the CRC (AB 011) for large-format & laser printing
  • 2 Complete Woodshop Tier 1 — Safety & Hand Tools
  • 3 Complete Woodshop Tier 2 — Power Tools & Joinery
  • 4 Get certified by a Makercorps student or faculty
  • 5 Sign in at the check-in desk before each shop session

2nd Year

Laser + 3D
Certification

Second-year students are required to complete laser cutter and 3D printer training and certification before using those machines independently.

  • 1 Complete the Laser Cutter online training module
  • 2 Get certified — certification links to your BSU ID
  • 3 Schedule equipment via WebCheckOut
  • 4 Complete 3D Printer training (FDM + SLA overview)

Where We Work

Labs & Locations

CAP Fab Labs operates five dedicated facilities in the Architecture Building and beyond. Each lab has its own focus, equipment, and access requirements.

CRC
CRC — AB 011
Architecture Building. Large-format plotters, laser printing, scanner, and supplies for purchase. Open to all.
Open Access Laser Lab
Laser Lab
Architecture Building. 4 machines — 3 large (18×32”) and 1 medium. Book via WebCheckOut after certification.
Certification Required 3D Print Lab
3D Print Lab
Architecture Building. FDM fleet (Prusa) and SLA/resin (Formlabs). Submit a print request or complete training.
Certification Required Woodshop
Woodshop
AB 029, Architecture Building. Hand tools, power tools, joinery, and finishing. Tier 1 + Tier 2 required.
Tier Training Required Design-Build Lab
Design-Build Lab
CAP industrial design hub. CNC routers, metal shop, plasma cutter, waterjet, and more. Staffed by Makercorps.
